Scott and Edgar: A Historic Space, Reimagined

When Scott and Edgar began planning their wedding, they knew they wanted to make it an unforgettable experience for their guests.They envisioned a celebration filled with entertainment, meaningful cultural elements, and surprise moments that reflected who they are as a couple.

The only catch? Their venue was still under construction.

The couple chose the Webster Community Center, a historic school building undergoing a major renovation in Pontiac, Michigan. When planning began in February 2025, the space was little more than a construction site with no established event layouts, infrastructure, or wedding history to reference.

Together, we built the wedding from the ground up — ultimately becoming the very first wedding ever hosted in the space.

The Vision

Scott and Edgar wanted guests to become immersed in the experience from the moment they arrived.

From the outside, the venue still looked like an active renovation project. But once guests entered the reception space, they were welcomed into a warm celebration that gave "hidden speakeasy" vibes, with candlelight, orchids, and lanterns.

The wedding was intentionally designed to be chock full of surprises. The biggest “wow” moment came immediately after the ceremony. As the reception doors opened, guests were greeted by the sound of a live mariachi band playing inside the historic gymnasium, instantly shifting the atmosphere from ceremony to celebration.

The Challenge & Our Role: Building a Wedding from Scratch

Because the Webster Community Center had never hosted a wedding before, nearly every logistical component had to be created from scratch.

During the planning process, we worked alongside the renovation team to:

  • Determine usable event layouts while construction was ongoing;

  • Create custom floor plans for the reception;

  • Coordinate power access for the DJ and food truck;

  • Ensure restroom trailer access and functionality;

  • Establish vendor flow and setup logistics, and;

  • Develop a detailed timeline for the entire day.

With approximately 150 guests and 16 vendors involved, careful coordination was essential to ensure the event felt seamless.

The taco truck dinner service and live entertainment elements also required intentional timeline management and cue coordination to keep the guest experience flowing smoothly throughout the evening.

Throughout the process with Scott and Edgar, Signed & Sealed:

  • Helped refine décor and rental selections;

  • Communicated with vendors;

  • Created the wedding day timeline;

  • Managed the rehearsal;

  • Created the floor plan, and;

  • Oversaw day-of execution for all vendors and event logistics.

Personal Touches

Every part of the wedding incorporated fun, family, culture and guest experience.

The celebration included a live mariachi band during cocktail hour, a drag queen performance as part of the evening entertainment, and a taco truck dinner.

One especially memorable surprise came from Edgar’s mother, who secretly arranged a traditional Mexican dance performance for the couple and guests. Signed & Sealed worked behind the scenes to coordinate the surprise seamlessly into the timeline without the couple discovering the details ahead of time.

The Result: A Celebration Full of Surprises

Guests were delighted by the transformation of the venue and the energy of the celebration. What initially appeared to be an unfinished construction site became an unforgettable wedding experience.

The event not only created lasting memories for Scott and Edgar and their guests, but also served as an important milestone for the Webster Community Center as they continue developing the venue for future events.

I’m incredibly proud to have helped execute the first wedding ever hosted in this historic space.
