The Ultimate Guide to Bridesmaid Jobs on Wedding Day

Updated: Jan 14

Getting ready on your wedding day is one of the most exciting parts of the entire experience, but it can also be one of the most chaotic if no one knows what they’re supposed to be doing.

As a wedding coordinator, I’ve seen firsthand how assigning clear bridesmaid duties for the wedding morning can completely change the tone of the day. Instead of stress, confusion, and last-minute scrambling, the getting-ready time becomes fun, relaxed, and actually enjoyable, with everyone playing a part.

Delegation is key. Giving each bridesmaid a specific job helps the bride stay present and keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Plus, people love feeling useful!

Below, I’m sharing a few helpful wedding-day jobs for bridesmaids for the getting-ready portion of the day. As you read through the list, I guarantee a certain bridesmaid will come to mind for each role (or you can send this to your girls and let them volunteer themselves!).

  1. For the Early Bird: Ask your bridesmaid who is a morning person (side note: how?!) to round up the group's coffee orders and pick it up on the way. There's a long day ahead, and caffeine is essential!

  2. For the Perfectionist: Ask your most meticulous bridesmaid to handle dress steaming for the group. Ideally, she should do this before her hair/makeup is done and in a separate room, as steam can mess with hair and makeup.

  3. For the One Who's Always On Her Phone: Ask your bridesmaid with the latest iPhone to snap candids all day long. The more the better! Have her send them to you at the end of the reception so you can bask in the day while you wait for professional pics.

  4. For the Party Girl: Ask the go-to party host of the group to bring her portable speaker. Getting-ready tunes are a must!

No matter how you divvy up the tasks, the goal is to make the "getting ready" time as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. By assigning your bridesmaids roles that play to their strengths, you can ensure that everyone is involved in a meaningful way while keeping the energy high and the fun flowing. After all, it’s the moments leading up to the ceremony that set the tone for the entire day—so make them count!
